Last week I saw an amazing tweet. At the time I didn’t know who Gretchen Goldman was, but I didn’t really need to know - because (as they say) a picture is worth a thousand words. And Goldman had posted two pictures in her tweet.
The tweet simply said:
Just so I’m being honest.
The first picture was Goldman, who holds a PhD in environmental engineering and works as the research director for Center of Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists, being interviewed on CNN.
The second photo, however, is the part where Goldman is “being honest” with us about what this moment in her life actually looked like.
I love the realness of her graphic confession! After her tweet exploded across Twitter, she had this to say in an interview:
“I just want us to be honest about the reality of the situation and make it more visible that parents are dealing with these challenges right now.”
So I’d like you to take a moment and be honest with yourself. We’re living in a completely chaotic time. We’re under unprecedented stresses coming from so many different angles.
Stop trying to pretend that everything is normal and under control.
No, I’m not suggesting we give in to the madness and just start day-drinking. I’m suggesting that with all of the stress and pressure we’re under, we can at least be kind to ourselves by not adding our own stress and pressure to act like everything is fine on the days when it’s not.
There’s no shame in being human!
