Are you old enough to remember Ronco? The company sold all sort of gadgets which it introduced to the world through late night infomercials featuring the company’s fast-talking founder, Ron Popeil. He gave the world the characteristic infomercial phrase “But wait, there’s more!”
One of his most successful products was the Showtime Rotisserie. When he would demonstrate how easy it was to use, he would use the trademarked phrase:
If you ask me, that’s absolutely brilliant marketing! Why? Because,
who doesn’t wish things were that easy?
Wouldn’t it be great if we could simply spend a little time on a given area of our life (finances, health, relationships, career, etc...) make a few tweaks, then just set it and forget it?
Of course life doesn’t work that way. But we REALLY wish it did. Which helps to explain how very smart people can sometimes end up living their lives on autopilot. And that’s not how MORTALS live.
I’ll continue this discussion next week.
Which, of course, is my way of saying... but wait, there’s more!
Did you ever own any Ronco products? Leave a note in the comments and let me know. We had the Pocket Fisherman and Mr. Microphone (which, technically is when I first got into podcasting! 😆 )
