“What the hell can I say following last week?” That’s been the question running through my head all weekend as I thought about writing today’s Mortal Living newsletter.
The virus continues to surge in many parts of the world. (Despite the fact it’s been a month since vaccines were approved.)
Many people are angry and arguing over how the vaccine rollout is happening.
Many people are angry and arguing over the government response to protecting healthcare / preserving the economic livelihood of citizens / providing education for children, etc…
My own province has just instituted a 1 month curfew, keeping everyone inside from 8pm - 5am.
And of course, there’s all of the political and social mayhem in the US.
And then I realized…
This is exactly what the Mortality Mindset is all about.
As Mortals we acknowledge that life is precious and fleeting.
We know that it can end at any time.
We know the end can come without warning.
We do our best to use that knowledge to drive us forward in living lives that matter - lives we’ve consciously chosen to live based on what matters most to us. Often, that requires adjusting our focus to filter out the things we can’t control. And sometimes (perhaps like right now) that means we need to narrow our focus all the way down to something as basic and being grateful for waking up this morning.
This week, I encourage you to start there…
"I woke up this morning - YES!”
