It will soon be income tax season here in Canada and also in the US. When it comes to taxes, write-offs are a great thing - the more the merrier. But in other areas of our lives, write-offs can be very dangerous and detrimental.
Let me give you some hypothetical examples.*
Let's say that you're trying to live a healthier lifestyle, but for one reason or another, you end up getting off track one day.
The right thing to do would be to give yourself a break for the slip and then get back on track.
The dangerous thing would be to say to yourself: "Oh well, today is a write-off, I'll try again tomorrow. Hey, since it's already a write-off... what's for dessert?"
The really dangerous thing would be to say: "Well, today's a write-off and since it's Friday, I might as well start again...on MONDAY!"
Go easy on yourself, yes - but staying vigilant and mindful of What Matters Most will get you back on track more quickly and easily, and with much less damage done.
*Examples are purely hypothetical. Any resemblance to events, thoughts or actions in my actual life, is completely coincidental. 😉
