In last week’s message (here if you missed it) I wrote about the importance of asking the right question.
Today, I want to remind you that having “the right answer”… isn’t always the answer.
Let me explain... very often I’ll rack my brain trying to deduce “the right answer” to a given situation. And often, that strategy pays off. Find the answer = problem solved!
But we can’t forget that the right answer isn’t the end of things. There’s also the follow-through.
Occasionally, I’ll run into a situation where I’m trying and trying to find “the right answer”, but then - when I have the answer - I don’t want to do whatever it is that needs doing. I don’t like the answer and don’t want to follow through.
This is especially true in coaching. Because my outside perspective isn’t burdened with all the emotional weight of a situation, I can see things my client might not be able to see. Rather than simply tell them what I think they should do, I ask questions designed to help them work through the situation and come to the realization naturally.
Like I said, sometimes having the answer isn’t the answer. It’s acting on the answer that really counts!
There is a difference between knowing the path & walking the path. – Morpheus (in the movie The Matrix)
(I really thought this would have been originally from Confucius or someone like that, but no - it seems like it was Morpheus.)
{Brainstorming an Idea}
If YOU are interested in walking the path of the Mortality Mindset AND would like to walk it with a group of other Mortals - let me know. I’m currently brainstorming ideas for how that might work. I’m not sure what will emerge from the idea, but I’d love to have a dedicated group of fellow Mortals supporting each other as we walk our individual paths together. If you’re interested (there’s no cost) - just hit Reply and say “Interested”.
